Authentic Spanish Fruit Sangria (Sparkling Citrus & Berries)
Spain's world-famous refreshing pitcher drink: vibrant ruby infusion of freshly squeezed oranges, lemons, crisp diced green apples, sweet red grapes, cinnamon quills, and sparkling berry juice poured over crystal ice.
Ingredients
Fresh Fruits & Spices
- 2 large organic Valencia oranges, one juiced, one thinly sliced into half-moons
- 1 large organic lemon, sliced into rounds
- 1 crisp Granny Smith green apple, cored and diced into small cubes
- 1 cup seedless red grapes, halved
- 1 cup fresh strawberries or raspberries
- 2 whole Ceylon cinnamon sticks
Liquid Base & Sweetener
- 3 cups pure 100% Spanish red grape or pomegranate juice (or dry Spanish Rioja for traditional version)
- 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 3 tbsp raw cane sugar or maple syrup
- 2 cups sparkling mineral water or citrus club soda, well chilled
- Fresh mint sprigs and plenty of ice cubes for serving
Instructions
Macerate the Fruits with Sugar and Cinnamon
In a large glass pitcher, combine the diced apples, sliced oranges, lemon rounds, halved grapes, and cinnamon sticks. Sprinkle with cane sugar and gently muddle with a wooden spoon for 30 seconds to release natural fruit juices and aromatic citrus oils.
Add the Juice Base & Chill (Crucial Step)
Pour in the red grape/pomegranate juice and fresh orange juice. Stir thoroughly to dissolve the sugar. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 to 4 hours (or overnight) so the fruits thoroughly infuse the liquid.
Add Fizz and Serve
Just before serving, top the pitcher with chilled sparkling mineral water. Fill tall wine goblets with plenty of ice cubes, pour the chilled sangria over the ice, spooning plenty of fruit into each glass, and garnish with fresh mint.
