Homemade Margherita Pizza
A classic Neapolitan-style pizza with fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce, and basil.

Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 500g bread flour
- 325ml warm water
- 7g yeast
- 10g salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Toppings:
- San Marzano tomato sauce
- Fresh mozzarella
- Fresh basil
- Extra virgin olive oil
Instructions
Activate the Yeast
In a bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. This ensures your yeast is alive and active.
Knead the Dough
Combine flour, salt, and yeast mixture. Knead for 10 minutes by hand or machine until the dough is smooth and elastic. Place in an oiled bowl to rise.
Proof the Dough
Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm spot for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Preheat the Oven
Place a pizza stone or baking steel in the oven and preheat to its highest setting (usually 250°C-275°C) for at least 45 minutes.
Shape and Top
Stretch the dough into a 12-inch circle. Spread a thin layer of San Marzano tomato sauce, leaving a border for the crust. Add torn pieces of fresh mozzarella.
Bake and Finish
Slide the pizza onto the hot stone and bake for 8-12 minutes until the crust is charred and the cheese is bubbly. Top with fresh basil and a drizzle of olive oil.
